Oak Glen Hiking Trips & Volunteering

May Schedule
Hello Everyone,

I’ve compiled what I believe to be a very exciting May schedule.  I hope that many of you decide to come out and join TWC staff for some excellent scenery, fun adventures, and rewarding volunteer work.

1.       Thursday May 3, 2012 – 7pm -  Morton Peak by Moonlight – This should be a fun walk up the Morton Peak Fire Road.  Most of the hike up will be in the fading sunlight, and there should be enough moonlight to light the way down, but bring a headlamp and/or flashlight just in case.  Conditions on the top can be a bit breezy, so an extra layer or light jacket could be useful.
·         6 miles
·         +/-1400 ft. elevation gain
·         2.5 hrs
·         Easy/moderate
·         5/20

2.       Saturday May 12, 2012 – 9am - Volunteer Day – Come join TWC staff for more work on expanding our trail system.
         * 9am-1pm
         * Trail Building
         * Wear long pants, long sleeved shirt, closed-toed shoes
         * Bring hat, work gloves, water bottle
         * Cookies and apple cider served

3.       Saturday May 19, 2012 – 9am - Volunteer Day and Volunteer Recognition Picnic – This event is intended to cap off our spring volunteer campaign and an overall great year of volunteer efforts.  Everyone that has volunteered for TWC is encouraged to come.  We will start off with a something light and easy in the morning, then hike down to Hidden Hollow to cook some hot dogs and hamburgers (or veggie burgers) over the campfire, enjoy some cookies and cider, and just relax.

         * 9am-11am - fun volunteer project
         * 11am-1pm - picnic
         * Wear long pants, long sleeved shirt, closed-toed shoes
         * Bring hat, work gloves, water bottle

4.       Sunday May 20, 2012 – 4pm - Mountain Home Flat – I am trying something new with this one.  It is going to be a late afternoon/evening hike to a great spot near Mountain Home Creek.  Instead of my usual power bars and gel packs, I plan to bring a nice picnic dinner to enjoy, so I encourage everyone to plan on something similar, so we can take a nice long break and enjoy ourselves.

·         3.5 miles
·         +/- 1100ft. elevation gain
·         3 hrs.
·         Moderate
·         5/15

5.       Sunday May 27, 2012 – 10am -  South Fork Trail to Dry Lake – I’ve never explored this area, so I am excited for this one.  It should be a fun day, with some amazing scenery.

·         13 miles
·         +/- 2200 ft. elevation gain
·         +/- 7 hrs. (depending on group size, pace, and preferences)
·         Moderate
·         5/15

I am hoping that May will give everyone a chance to enjoy more of the outdoors, and give us a chance to say thank you to our passionate and hardworking volunteers.  As usual, please call or email me to sign up and to get meeting notes, requirements and suggestions, and/or directions.

Onward and Upward!
